DANGEROUS BOTTLE FEEDING PRACTICE

by Anonymous

Alarming reports from America have highlighted the instances of babies choking while bottle feeding.

One of the causes of this warns an NICU nurse and mother of triplets is the practice of bottle propping. She pointed out that a propped bottle continues to drip liquid even when not being sucked on. She says that asphyxia or pneumonia are possible from propped bottles and parents and carers need to realise this practice is dangerous.

Many parents are tempted to feed this way when the demand on their time is overwhelming. This is more common in households with more than one young infant to care for. Mothers are told from the beginning that bottle propping is dangerous, and apart from the very real serious dangers, it can also cause liquid overflow to get into the baby's ear and cause ear infections. This, along with the baby sucking too much air and causing colic, can lead to a very distressed baby and mother.

Julia Robinson of Twincall Publications Ltd, the UK’s exclusive supplier of the “Hands-Free Baby Bottle” says “Our unique hands-free feeding system gives the parent the extra helping hand they need, the baby can feed safely in a cars, prams or buggies”.
